A prolific Canadian artist for multiple decades, Bonnie Brooks first entered the art world as a watercolour expert. A member of the “Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour” since 1999 and former watercolour teacher at St. Lawrence College, her work has been displayed in galleries across Ontario. Her 2001 watercolour work “Suspension” was juried to be honoured and put on display at the Queens Royal Collection of Drawings and Watercolours in Windsor Castle. Bonnie has since switched her focus to acrylic painting with an insatiable curiosity to try new ideas, techniques and mediums such as incorporating mixed media elements into her work such as applying fabrics, paper, metals in tandem with her acrylic work. Refusing to be confined to canvas, Bonnie often utilizes alternative materials to paint upon. Not one to stick on a certain theme, she applies her talents to landscapes, still life and abstract work. Bonnie often utilizes a new technique with each painting to ensure each is unique with its own personality. Bonnie has also spent time as an art store manager and sales representative which, along with her time as an art teacher, has helped shape and inform her work. A keen eye for light, shadow and a deep sense of space, her work is able to communicate the serenity of a walk in a sun-kissed forest, or the history of a timeworn item long since discarded. The result can be beautiful or haunting, appearing deeper than simply a flat piece of canvas or wood. "For me every painting is a new journey. There are rarely predicable outcomes but endless possibilities.”
